Islamabad: Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Sunday revealed that all brick kilns in Punjab – which were held responsible for the significant portion of choking air pollution (smog) – have been shifted to zig-zag technology in a bid to mitigate the hazardous provincial air pollution, according to news sources.

Mr Aslam revealed that as many as 7,896 traditional brick kilns running on smog-causing fossil fuels in Punjab have been shifted to the environmentally smart zig-zag technology to help ease the breath-chocking carbon emissions by 60% and save power by 30%. The process of shifting kilns was executed in a remarkably short period of six months.

Moreover, the special assistant highlighted that the said accomplishment as one of the great milestone achieved by the provincial government to fight air pollution in Punjab. He urged other provinces to follow the suit and fight environmental degradation to protect public health. Mr Aslam revealed that there are about 20,000 kilns nationwide that run of furls like coal, rubber and shoe soles that emit lethal black carbon fumes.
