Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) has decided to run all economic zones on solar energy, according to a news story published on June 1.

As per the details, it is a first-of-its-kind project that is being implemented under the Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initiative. Initially, three economic zones will be shifted to solar energy which include Bannu, Jalozai and Karak Economic Zones. In the next phase, all the remaining economic zones will be shifted.
KPEZDMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Javed Iqbal Khattak disclosed that the 30 acres of land is allocated in certain economic zones for the establishment of a 10-megawatts solar energy generating plant. It was mentioned that in future the capacity of the solar energy plants will be increased to meet the energy demands of the industrial units.

In this regard, the KPEZDMC has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an international consortium. The KPEZDMC CEO disclosed that this initiative will provide cheap electricity and will decrease the cost of production of locally manufactured goods. He revealed that KP is the first province to launch a green energy project.
