Karachi: The Karachi city administration has decided to evacuate decaying buildings, as reported on April 30. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi.

The meeting also reviewed the condition of Evacuee Property Trust Board buildings and decided that all Deputy Commissioners would inspect such buildings in their respective districts and submit reports within a week.
Commissioner Naqvi stressed collaboration with the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to ensure immediate action for public safety.

Additionally, he instructed municipalities to assess historical buildings and markets. A survey by the SBCA Technical Committee last year identified 550 dilapidated buildings in Karachi, prompting evacuation notices to residents due to the risk of collapse during rains.
