Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization, and Board of Investment (BOI) Abdul Aleem Khan has received a comprehensive briefing on the Gilgit Package road projects, as reported on July 26.

As per details, the meeting included a detailed disucssion on the “Gilgit Package,” which covers road projects connecting Gilgit to Chitral, Shandoor, Mansehra, and other areas. Aleem Khan noted that enhancing security and facilities on these highways would attract more tourists and travelers.
Aleem Khan highlighted that the Gilgit-Khunjerab Motorway could be a “Game Changer,” providing crucial access to China and Central Asia. He also stressed the need for robust land connectivity through road and rail to Gwadar.
The minister insisted on maintaining high construction standards and directed the NHA chairman to appoint diligent and skilled officers to oversee the projects. He pointed out that merely spending funds is not enough; government departments must focus on boosting their revenue.
Aleem Khan encouraged NHA officers to use their expertise to develop international project models, aiming to increase the NHA’s annual income. In discussing infrastructure in the northern region, Aleem Khan reiterated that the Gilgit-Khunjrab Motorway and the connectivity to Gwadar are both pivotal for regional development.

It was announced that NHA will receive an additional 23 billion rupees this year for new toll plazas and their operation. The meeting also resulted in important decisions regarding NHA projects across the four provinces.
