Karachi: The Agha Khan University (AKU) has introduced a new mobile application called ‘CoronaCheck’ which enables users to perform self-screening for COVID-19 infection and evaluate symptoms, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the AKU’s Technology Innovation Support Centre (TISC) and the Aga Khan University Hospital have developed CoronaCheck. The former provided the essential technological side of the application while latter the developed the screening algorithm for COVID-19.

The application recommends the best practices for self-protection against the infection. It provides advice and recommendations on self-assessment and suggests social distancing measures as prescribed by the World Health organisation (WHO).

Additionally, CoronaCheck also busts misconceptions and myths via educational videos in the Urdu Language to counter the escalating fake information on social media regarding COVID-19.

Further, the application employs an interactive chatbot with artificial intelligence and lets users receive alerts on their health condition and symptoms. Also, the application diminishes the patients’ need to go to the hospital and help shoulder the burden of the healthcare system.
