Muzaffarabad: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood and Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas on Wednesday (August 24) performed the groundbreaking of a much-anticipated ‘dry port complex’ in Mirpur, according to news sources.

It was highlighted that the newly-inaugurated dry port has been a long-standing demand of the local and non-local importers, traders and industrialists. AJK Commerce, Industry and Mineral Secretary Mirza Wajahat Rasheed Baig revealed that the dry port complex is being developed over a 110-kanal land area, with an estimated cost of PKR 815.8 million.
The secretary also revealed that the prime minister has directed the relevant departments to ensure the completion of the Dry Port complex before the stipulated timeframe of 18 months.

In the inaugural ceremony address, AJK PM stated that the project will usher the Kashmiri people into a new vista of socio-economic development and employment opportunities. He also revealed that an industrial zone will also be set up in Mirpur to link it to the industrial area of Punjab to facilitate both inter and intra-country trade and help the state in the generation of revenue. Additionally, the construction of a new airport was also announced in Mirpur and hinted at the launch of a private international airline, masterminded by a United States-based Kashmiri businessman.
