Muzaffarabad: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan stated that the government will resolve the ecological concerns faced by residents of Muzaffarabad and its surrounding areas, according to a news source.
He expressed these sentiments to a delegation of traders. The diversion of Neelum River for the Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (NJHP) has for long been an environmental concern. Khan stated that both NJHP and Kohala are important projects, but the people’s concerns must be addressed first.
The AJK government will cooperate with the relevant federal authorities for this purpose. The sewerage and treatment systems in the AJK capital would be improved. Khan said that at least 20% of water will continue to flow in Neelum River. Smaller water bodies will also be constructed in the lower basin.
The government is also going to conduct a study to identify environmental hazards. The relevant authorities will take drastic measures, depending on the study’s findings.
