Muzaffarabad: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD) Coordination Council recently approved its budget, with a total outlay of PKR 2.35 billion, for the (fiscal year) FY2019-20 – a news source reported.

AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider presided over the budget meeting held on Friday. During the meeting, the council approved the following funds:
- PKR 1.3 billion for the Prime Minister’s Community Infrastructure Development Programme (CIDP)
- PKR 320 million for uplift of the social sector
- PKR 240 million for the development schemes at the discretion of the Legislative Assembly members
- PKR 80 million for the development of under-construction bridges
- PKR 60 million for other schemes at the discretion of the members of the (defunct) AJK council
- PKR 52 million for initiating union council level schemes
- PKR 50 million for the construction of union council buildings
- PKR 40 million for the installation of solar street lamps in district headquarters
- PKR 30 million for a clean drinking water operation
- PKR 26.3 million for water and sanitation programme
- PKR 25 million for construction of link roads
- PKR 20 million for construction of buildings, repair of bridges, block provision, construction of LG&RD directorate general office building
- PKR 16 million for district councils
- PKR 12 million for coordination council
- PKR 10.06 million for computerisation of the birth and death registration records

The meeting was informed that LG&RD department had successfully executed over 8,601 schemes in the fiscal year 2018-19 in the AJK territory. These projects amounted to PKR 2.251 billion.
In response, the AJK premier lauded the department for achieving 100% completion of its development targets. He also noted that development schemes of PKR 5.8 billion executed by the LG&RD department over the last three fiscal years had resulted in a marked development of the rural infrastructure.
