Islamabad: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government and Chinese ‘Three Gorges Company’ on Friday have signed an agreement for the construction of 1,124 megawatt Kohala Hydropower Project, according to news sources.

Reportedly, the Kohala Hydel Power Project will be constructed under China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC). Present at the occasion were Federal Minister of Energy, Hammad Azhar, AJK Prime Minister (PM) Raja Farooq Haider and other officials.
Giving details, CPEC Authority Chairman Lieutenant General (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Twitter that the project will attract foreign investment of USD 2.4 billion, labelling this as the largest investment by the Chinese company in Pakistan.

The Kohala Hydropower Project is a mega hydropower project located in Kohala, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This dam will address energy shortage in Pakistan. The plan for this project was finalized in 2020, while the arrangements were signed later by Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong.
