Muzaffarabad: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Government will launch a massive plantation drive in spring, according to a news source. In this drive, over 5 million saplings will be planted over 8,153 acres.
The forests department itself will plant 3.8 million saplings. The armed forces stationed in AJK will plant one million trees, and the rest will be planted by students and members of the civil society.
AJK Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Sardar Mir Akbar Khan announced the intention for this drive at a press conference in Muzaffarabad.
The salient feature of this drive is the plantation of Chinar saplings along the entryways of AJK to beautify the region. The authorities will also plant trees along main roads, tourist resorts, government offices, and guesthouses.
Tourists can also participate in this drive, and small plaques bearing their names will be installed along with the saplings they plant. This drive is a continuation of the government’s efforts to preserve the forest cover of AJK.
