Lahore: Punjab Planning and Development (P&D) department held a kick-off meeting with the teams of Asian Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (on August 9) to discuss ‘Punjab Sustainable Highway Development Project’, according to news sources. The meeting was chaired by P&D Board Chairman Abdullah Khan Sumbal.

Under the highway development project, approximately 535-kilometre long network of dual carriageway highway section between various cities of Punjab will be constructed/rehabilitated. The project involves rehabilitation of the existing carriageways and construction of a secondary carriageway within the road’s right of way. Reportedly, land will be acquired for construction of the carriageway where needed.

The Punjab Sustainable Highway Development Project will improve transportation system throughout the province. As per sources, the meeting members talked about the outcomes, estimated cost, impact, scope, and implementation arrangements of the project. It was reported that the terms and conditions of the proposed loan were also considered.
