Beijing: The government has invited the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Chinese corporate leaders to invest in Pakistan, particularly in Mohmand and Dasu Dams, a news source reported. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar extended the invitation.
The Pakistani officials held a meeting with AIIB President Jin Ligun and leaders of Chinese companies – including China Railway Construction Corporation, Huawei, Norinco and others on the sideline of the 8th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting. JCC is the apex decision-making body on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Bakhtiar said that Pakistan has received solid investment in energy generation portfolio, and the government is encouraging investments in projects based on hydel or renewable resources. He invited AIIB to invest in the Dasu and Mohmand Dam projects.
On his part, the AIIB president pledged to finance various projects such as the installation of transmission lines and hydropower generation that could boost Pakistan’s economic growth. He said the international lender is already funding projects worth USD 1.68 billion in Pakistan.
