Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has asked the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to provide soft loans for two projects, a news source reported. The authority has already shelved a PKR 40 billion agreement with AIIB regarding the construction of a waste water treatment plant.
AIIB had agreed to partially fund the project besides offering a grant of USD 700,000 for feasibility study. The two sides were expected to sign an agreement in December. However, the Punjab Government instead opted to construct tunnel boring and surface water projects.
Last week, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar had invited AIIB and Chinese corporate leaders to invest in Pakistan, particularly in Mohmand and Dasu Dams.
Bakhtiar said that Pakistan had received solid investment in energy generation portfolio, and the government was encouraging investments in projects based on hydel or renewable resources.
