Lahore: The Punjab traffic police has launched an anti-smog campaign, issuing hundreds of electronic challans to vehicles emitting excessive smoke using advanced artificial intelligence technology, as reported on July 26.

As per details, the Punjab government announced that AI-powered cameras will now monitor every vehicle emitting smoke. The new electronic challans will include photographic and video evidence of violations, reflecting a modern approach to traffic enforcement.
This campaign is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to integrate Safe City cameras into the e-challan process for both traffic and environmental law violations. Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb noted that this use of modern technology is enhancing both environmental protection and traffic law enforcement. She expressed confidence that, with public cooperation, Punjab will become a leading example of effective and environmentally-conscious policing.

The chief minister emphasised the importance of innovative technical training to spur economic growth and reduce unemployment. TEVTA institutes are set to introduce advanced courses in various fields, including building, textiles, garments, tourism, hospitality, ICT, automobile repair, food processing, biomedical technology, light engineering, renewable energy, and surgical instruments.
