Islamabad: While chairing a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC), Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that agriculture is among the top priority sectors of the country, according to a news source. He further said that the sector alone accounted for the country’s economic development and the future prosperity of local farmers.

PM Khan directed the officials concerned to formulate a dedicated strategy for reviving the agriculture sector in order to ensure the provision of facilities to farmers — with a special emphasis on wheat, maize, rice and sugarcane crops. He added that the incumbent government was committed to developing the sector as a top priority and that the NCC on Agriculture needed to be effectively utilized for agricultural development. He also called for the continuous monitoring of developments and thorough consultations to make this sector as profitable as possible.

The NCC meeting was attended by Special Assistants to the PM, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema and Dr. Shehbaz Gill, Economic Advisory Council member Abid Qayyum Sulehri, State Bank Governor Dr. Reza Baqirz, and other senior government officials. The meeting was briefed in detail about the implementation of a coordinated strategy, and short-term to long term roadmaps for the development of the agriculture sector.
