Multan: At a recent meeting of the Environment Protection Department (EPD), it was decided that an environmental protection agency will be set up to keep environmental pollution levels under control, according to sources. The initiative will work on completely eradicating sewerage waste and air pollutants emitted from the factories located in the province.

For this purpose, the provincial government of the Punjab has made the decision to establish two certified environmental research laboratories at Bahawalpur and D G Khan.

The agency will be responsible for establishing treatment plants which will filter and clean the sewerage waste discharged from factories. A strategic planning and implementation unit will be working under the supervision of this agency which will be working on putting the Punjab Green Development Program into action. Additionally, authorities have promised to provide the required equipment for tracking and monitoring various elements, such as the water table and air quality.
