Islamabad: The National Highways Authority (NHA) Executive Board has allowed the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) to conduct competitive bidding for centralised procurement of the public buildings’ solarisation project, news sources reported on January 26.

In this regard, the NHA Executive board has tasked AEDB to carry out the competitive bidding process on behalf of the procuring agencies. Under the terms of reference for the AEDB, the agency will devise a suitable plan to conduct the competitive bidding process under Rule 11 of PPRA, 2004, on NHA’s behalf. The agency will procure equipment for the installation of rooftop net metering-based solar PV systems at the identified buildings while the payments will be made from NHA’s own resources. Following the completion of competitive bidding, the NHA will enter into a contract with the lowest bidder.

It is important to note that the federal government, in a letter dated December 27, 2022, has directed all government departments to fulfil their energy needs through solar energy. In this regard, the government has formulated the framework guidelines for the solarisation of public sector buildings to promote and develop renewable energy resources in the country.
