Islamabad: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday (August 31) approved a USD 3 million grant to fund flood relief and reconstruction efforts in Pakistan, news sources reported. The Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF) funds are expected to assist the government in purchasing food, tents, and other humanitarian items.

Reportedly, massive cash aid and relief products have poured in from all over the world to aid those devastated by the torrential rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. According to government officials, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK), and other countries have donated assistance materials. Furthermore, international organisations such as the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and tech giants such as Apple have announced aid packages for flood-affected communities. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has indicated that its management would collaborate with the government of Pakistan to help with relief operations and employ all available resources.

It is important to note that the country has been slammed by heavy rains, which have caused flooding throughout the country. According to government estimates, Pakistan has suffered USD 10 billion in material damage and productivity loss. Furthermore, the disastrous flood has displaced 33 million people.
