Islamabad: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have partnered to enhance Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and solid waste management in Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur cities of Punjab province. The development got limelight through an article on March 6.

Pursuant to the details, the partnership aims to benefit 1.5 million urban residents, focusing on inclusive, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure and services. The agreement underscores mutual commitment to improving access to essential services and reducing vulnerability to climate change, particularly for children and women. This collaboration builds upon previous joint efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, signalling potential future collaborations in Pakistan.

Under the ADB-funded DREAMS Project, this initiative aims to improve urban service quality and reliability. ADB’s country director for Pakistan Yong Ye, and UNICEF’s representative Abdullah Fadil emphasised the importance of this joint effort to address water supply and waste management challenges.
