Islamabad: Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an agreement for a loan to improve roads in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to a news report. Under the agreement, ADB will provide a USD 140 million loan for enhancing road networks and road safety and maintenance, while the Pakistan government will contribute another USD 24 million to the project.
Economic Affairs Division Secretary In-charge Syed Ghazanfar Abbas Jilani and ADB Country Director Xiaohong Yang signed the agreement. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Roads Improvement Project will improve eight important road sections totalling a length of 214 kilometres. The project is expected to be complete by 2022.
Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (PKHA) will work to improve its highway network under the project, and the improved roads will serve to reduce the overall maintenance costs on them.
