The Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) had earlier been tasked with executing these initiatives, but couldn’t procure the required funds. The WSSC’s sources have reported that the lack of funds has delayed several projects, including the installation of water supplies, construction of overhead tanks, and the repair work of drainage lines.
A team from the ADB visited the WSSC office, and provided assurances for resolving the water supply and drainage issues in the district. The officials added that these concerns would be seen to on a priority basis. WSSC is hopeful that with the ADB’s help, it will be able to resume work on the halted projects soon.
The ADB delegation paid visits to several pending projects as demanded by its role in the Intermediate Citizen Investment and Empowerment Project. The team visited several dumping sites in the main city, a water treatment plant on Rawalpindi Road, and a recycling plant in Mohammad Zai.
