Multan: A delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) met with the Division Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Sahu and briefed him about various development schemes designed to promote progress in Multan, according to news sources.
This meeting was part of the provincial government’s plan to encourage the development of Multan, a city that was recently granted a metropolitan status.
The commissioner said that the sewerage system of the city is being rehabilitated upon the directives of the provincial government. He revealed that the ADB will provide the required funds for the development of the waste treatment plant to enhance the sewerage infrastructure of the city.

The waste treatment plant will be linked to the southern and central zone of the city, and will be constructed with an estimated cost of over PKR 40 billion.
The Commissioner opined that a dilapidated sewerage system is the root cause of many of the city’s infrastructural problems. He said that the upgradation of the sewerage system and waste water treatment plant will help control the pollution, and prevent an outbreak of diseases. He lauded the ADB’s planning schemes for the development and municipal departments of the city.

The managing director of the Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA) said that Multan is producing about 297 million gallons of waste every day, and 59 million gallons of it is treated and released into the rivers.
Moreover, the ADB delegation received expert briefing while they visited the disposal station, the site for the construction of the wastewater treatment plant, and the landfill site of the Multan Waste Management Company.
