Lahore: The Asian Development Bank has granted a loan of USD 270 million for Jalalpur Canal, a news source reported. The Irrigation Department has begun the construction of the canal that will extend through Jhelum, Khushab and Pind Dadan Khan. The canal is set to irrigate 300,000 acres of land, while the loan would be returned in 30 years.
According to details, the Irrigation department has begun acquisition of 18,000 kanals of land in the Rawalpindi division. The project will have 17 water outlets. These outlets will be handed over to the Public Health department which will establish water filtration plants there to provide clean drinking water to the locals.
