Karachi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 400 million concessional loan to aid the reconstruction of homes and community infrastructure in Pakistan’s Sindh province, according to a news source on July 26.

As per the details, the Sindh Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project aims to rebuild flood-damaged houses, support livelihood recovery, and enhance climate resilience in communities.
This initiative is part of ADB’s broader USD 1.5 billion flood recovery assistance to Pakistan from 2023 to 2025. Sindh province, suffering 83% of the housing damage, will see 250,000 houses rebuilt with resilient designs. The project also includes infrastructure improvements like drinking water, sanitation, covered drainage, and renewable energy solutions for 100,000 households in 1,000 villages.

ADB emphasises community-led climate resilience and disaster risk management strategies. A $500,000 technical assistance grant will enhance the government’s capabilities in procurement, safeguard compliance, and management.
