Following the Supreme Court’s (SC) order to clear the encroachments from KCR’s ‘right of way’, authorities concerned cleared the land. The provincial government then promised the affected people about arranging makeshift tents and mobile toilets.
An official of the Urban Resource Centre, Seema Liaquat presented a joint charter of demands. She said that both federal and provincial governments should make joint efforts to rehabilitate the affected people. She added that those individuals who have been deprived of their livelihood as a result of the project should be compensated as per International Law.
Liaquat also urged for the formation of a committee at government level for the affected people, and that it should have representation from the residents of the affected areas. She added that fresh Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) surveys should be conducted so that those people who were missed during the 2013 survey could also be incorporated as affectees.
