Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently stated that it had recorded more than three million tax filers on its Active Taxpayers List (ATL) during the Tax Year (TY) 2019, a news source reported on December 22.

Following the recent update made to the ATL, the number of tax filers was seen to reach its all-time high at 3.453 million. For TY2018, the taxation agency had recorded 2.85 million filers (the then highest figure). The FBR had publicised this information in its taxpayer’s directory issued in October.
An official working for the FBR’s Regional Tax Office (RTO) stated that the federal institution intends to update the ATL till February 28, 2021; adding that it expects additional tax returns for said year. He further stated that the RTO had notified taxpayers concerned of their tax filing obligations on the basis of third-party information.

As per the ATL publicised on March 1 of the going year, some 2.53 million individuals had filed their tax returns by February 29 and the taxation agency had recorded additional 470,000 returns till date. The number active tax filers was seen to increase amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
