Karachi: Officials involved in abetting illegal construction in the metropolis would have to pay for the relocation of the people residing in such buildings, a news source reported. The orders to this effect were issued by the Supreme Court.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, gave the judgement on a petition regarding illegal construction in Lyari. The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) was one of the respondents in the petition.

The bench also ordered the director general of the SBCA to take action against all responsible officers found to have indulged in and abetted such illegal constructions in Karachi.
According to the judgement, any retired employee found to have been involved in abetting such illegal constructions would have to pay for the resettlement out of their retirement dues. The Accountant General of Pakistan/Revenue and Accountant General Sindh have been notified accordingly.
