Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) may be unable to acquire a chunk of over 17,000 kanals of land at Mauza Toor Warraich for its LDA City project, due to a land consolidation (Ishtmal) issue – a news source reported. This is because the Supreme Court has suspended Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act; announced for acquiring the said land piece.

As a result, the LDA City project is likely to be squeezed from 58,000 kanals to 40,000 kanals. Previously, the apex court had directed Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Mehmood-ur-Rashid, and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to chalk out a workable plan, in order to compensate all 9,000 LDA City file owners.
The LDA officials were also told to bifurcate the scheme into phases. To compensate the file owners in the first phase, the authorities concerned were asked to develop an area along Buchar Khana distributary on Ferozepur Road.
