Lahore: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and Lahore Development Authority (LDA) have launched an operation against illegal constructions in the city, a news source reported.
LDA’s Town Planning Wing demolished a marquee along with its adjacent structures on Canal Road. The buildings had been constructed in violation of construction by-laws. Furthermore, the marquee had been developed without getting its building plan approved by the LDA. Sufficient space, in addition, had not been allocated for parking.
Earlier, an eight-member committee had been constituted by both the authorities. The work of the committee was centred on identifying illegal housing scheme constructions, violation of building by-laws, and the redressal of complaints pending with ACE Lahore.
The terms of reference (TORs) of the committee included the finalisation of its operational mechanism, and the verification of the status of constructions identified by ACE and private housing schemes (as per record and applicable rules).
They were also aimed at ensuring the issuance of show-cause notices and demolition drives on the orders of the competent authority, in case any constructions were found non-compoundable. In case such cases are identified, the buildings concerned are to be regularised.
The committee will also forward a progress report to the ACE Lahore Director, and hold subsequent progress review meetings.
