Lahore: The Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has decided to freeze the accounts of property tax defaulters in a bid to recover its dues, according to E&T Director-General (DG) Ashraf Gondal.

He said that the department has to collect property tax worth billions of rupees every year. However, tax collection has increasingly become a difficult task as most people avoid paying taxes due to a relaxation in the rules.
The officials concerned have sought amendments in these regulations. For this purpose, a summary was recently forwarded to the Secretary E&T for approval.

Under this proposed policy, the E&T department will be empowered to freeze the bank accounts as well as arrest the individuals who fail to clear their property dues.
