Karachi: The Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) is willing to start a model housing project in Islamabad, which will comprise 5,000 affordable units in September if certain assistance is provided by the Federal Government of Pakistan, reported a news source. The association is looking to play its part in reducing the housing shortfall faced by the country.
Talking to the news media, ABAD Chairman Arif Yousaf Jeewa said that if the federal government allots land to the association, sets up a one-window operation regarding the matters involved in construction, and promises to provide utility services’ connections, it can launch their model project for affordable housing societies in September. Jeewa also demanded the government to set up a separate ministry for affordable housing schemes as he believes that the housing shortfall can be best tackled if the National Housing Policy is made and followed for the next 20 years.
For this particular project the ABAD has proposed, the association is willing to bear the complete construction cost of the 5,000 affordable units.
