Islamabad: Managing Director Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Abdul Ghafoor Khan said that steps are being taken to rapidly transform PTDC into a National Tourism Authority (NTA), according to a news report. He also added that members of a delegation from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, who had recently visited Pakistan also recommended the establishment of a National Tourism Authority as a replacement for PTDC.
They further added that this would serve as a platform for promoting Pakistan as a tourist destination in the international tourism market. During this meeting, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was briefed about the objectives to be achieved with the formation of NTA. It was highlighted that PTDC owns a lot of real estate, which would subsequently be transformed in the investment branch of tourism in Pakistan.
It was also announced that the PTDC Chief would be the head representative of Pakistan’s delegation at the 31st NJoint Commission Meeting for East Asia Pacific and South Asia scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2019.
