Karachi: As many as 36 families displaced due to mining activities in Thar coalfield bloc-II have been allotted permanent housing in a model village built by the Sindh Government, a news source reported. Each house in New Senhri Dars Resettlement village covers an area of over 1,100 square yards.

Each house has three bedrooms, a washroom, a kitchen, sitting areas for men and women, traditional chounra (a straw-made hut), a guestroom and an animal yard. Each house is solar-powered along with main grid connection.
Construction work on at least 172 of these houses will be completed by March next year. The village would have a triple-storey school for 1,000 students, a market of 10 shops, separate community centres for men and women, two reverse osmosis plants to provide uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water, mosque, temple, and Gauchar (pasture) area.

The families were also each given PKR 10,000 grant from a one-off PKR 950 million grant as part of several compensation and rehabilitation schemes introduced by the provincial government for the people of the impoverished region.
