Rawalpindi: A plan has been prepared to bring 24 rural densely populated union councils (UCs) of the district under the tax net, according to news published on Sunday (December 12).

As per the details, after this, the union councils will be granted urban status. According to sources, the water sewage, property, professional and board taxes will be collected from the councils. It was decided that 20 major roads of the council will be classified as commercial. The sources informed that all the economic activities on these roads will also be included in the commercial tax net.
Moreover, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has started a survey to increase property tax revenue in the Rawalpindi district. Under the survey, all the houses used for commercial activities like beauty parlours, tailor shops, warehouses, and shops will be examined.

Reportedly, the Punjab government has waived property tax on houses of up to 5-marla. Under the new plan, all the five-marla houses which are completely or partially rented out or have one or two shops built or where warehouses, mini-factories or beauty salons have been established will be classified as commercial and will fall under the tax net. Also, the new shops, plazas, and houses that are constructed in the division within the last five years will be included in the tax net.
