North-based mills saw an 8.62% decline in total dispatches for the fiscal year-to-date, with domestic sales falling by 10.39%. However, exports rose by 26.47%, reaching 878,324 tons. South-based mills showed a different trend, with total dispatches rising by 4.05% to 5.501 million tons, driven by a 29.38% increase in exports, which reached 3.148 million tons.
An APCMA spokesperson attributed the export growth to demand from international markets but emphasized the need for government intervention to address challenges faced by the sector. Lowering duties and taxes, they stated, could help reduce costs for end consumers, boost local demand, and enable the industry to utilize its unused production capacity.
