Rawalpindi: The local administration on Thursday locked down 21 COVID-19 hotspots in the city, according to a news source. To this effect, the authorities concerned have sought a detailed report on these densely populated locations from the special branch of the police.

The officials concerned stated that they had sealed the following areas: Ali Abad, Allama Iqbal Colony, Dehri Hasanabad, Dhoke Ali Akbar, Dhoke Kala Khan, Dhoke Kashmirian, Dhoke Paracha, Ghausia Chowk, Iqbal Town, Jhamra, Khurram Colony, Kurri Road, Magistrate Colony, Muslim Town, People’s Colony, Qayumabad, Sadiqabad, Satellite Town Blocks A and C, Tahli Morri, and Tench Bhatta.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Captain (retired) Anwarul Haq stated that the administration had sealed these areas for all kinds of movement and teams were dispatched to conduct surveys for more cases. He added that these areas will remain sealed till June 30.
The DC revealed that numerous people had tested positive for COVID-19 in these areas and a number of suspected cases were also under quarantine. All markets and both private and public offices were closed down in these areas. The DC warned that any violations will be met with strict action.

Only one person would be allowed to move on a vehicle for essential tasks in these areas. Pharmacies will be open around the clock, while grocery shops, vegetable shops, and tandoors would be open from 9 AM to 7 PM.
In addition, all milk shops, meat, chicken, and fish shops would be allowed to be open from 7 AM to 7 PM. The police have installed barbed wires at all the entrance and exit points of these areas in order to restrict movement of the citizens.
