Gujranwala: Gujranwala’s newly appointed Commissioner Zahid Akhtar Zaman has given residents a two-week deadline to move cattle outside of the city domain, a news source reported. In this regard, the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA), the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC), the Parks and Horticulture Authority and city corporation officials have been asked to ensure that the commissioner’s directives are fulfilled within the requisite time.

Speaking to media representatives after taking charge of the commissioner’s office, Zaman stated that the decision to remove cattle from the city premises was the first step required in order to maintain cleanliness across Gujranwala, especially its roads. He added that he had also ordered an immediate operation against encroachments and vowed to have them removed across the city.

Commissioner Zaman further revealed his plans to solve existing issues in the city’s markets and vowed to continue the operations directed at making the lives of the public more convenient. Additionally, in order to help WASA arrange the required funds to clear sewerage problems within the city, the commissioner directed the government authority to prepare a list of all the people that had defaulted on their bills and launch a crackdown against these individuals. In addition, he instructed the GWMC to clear the waste on city roads at an expedited pace.
