Sialkot: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs Usman Dar on Sunday announced the federal government’s decision to allow the reopening of 140 factories in the city from today (Monday) onwards, a news source reported.

He further stated that the executive had permitted those factory owners to resume their business operations who had to finalise their pending export deals. He added that these individuals would follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implemented by the Punjab government.

The factories are expected to complete their export orders with a minimum number of workers and other precautionary protocols, he said.
Dar stated that exporters from Sialkot had been performing a central role in the national economy as they earned a foreign exchange of about USD 2.5 billion on an annual basis. He informed that about 250,000 workers were directly associated with Sialkot’s export industries.

He confirmed that the factory owners would implement the SOPs and all necessary protocols to keep the workers safe from coronavirus spread.
