Lahore: The Punjab Government has accorded approval for the construction of two-way roads in 14 districts of the province, a news source reported. The orders were issued by Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan who directed the authorities concerned to follow the build, operate and transfer (BOT) and public-private partnership models in this regard.
The departments concerned were told to follow international standards during the construction work. The minister said that the maximum amount of trees should also be planted to protect the environment. He directed the Communication & Works secretary to take immediate steps in this regard and start tendering work of these inter-district roads.
The districts are Sargodha, Chiniot, Vehari, Chakwal, Jhang, Mianwali, Muzafargarh, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Khushab, Kabirwala, Burewala, Depalpur, and Sumandari. Moreover, construction of interchanges was made part of the project.
Aleem Khan said that at least 10 districts should be included for the construction of new roads every fiscal year to facilitate the residents of far-flung areas.
