Islamabad: The number of registered businesses and companies with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has crossed the 12.5 million mark, according to recent official figures shared in the National Assembly.
The data highlights a significant increase of 5.3 million registered business taxpayers over the past three years, signaling growing participation in the formal tax system. This surge is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance tax compliance through digital registration and ongoing tax reforms.

The majority of registered businesses are based in Punjab, with approximately 8.2 million entities, followed by Sindh with 2.876 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 818,000, Islamabad with 467,000, and Balochistan with 221,000.
This increase in business registrations reflects a positive trend towards formalizing the economy and improving tax revenue collection. Experts believe that the digital registration initiatives introduced by the FBR are playing a crucial role in this growth, making it easier for businesses to comply with tax regulations.
