Sukkur: As many as 1,166 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in Sindh have been made functional, a news source reported. The findings were disclosed in a report submitted in the Supreme Court by its mandated water commission.
The commission said it had identified 2,207 (RO) plants in Sindh and carried out inspection work on 1,800 plants. As many as 1,166 plants were made functional, and the remaining would be rehabilitated by the end of December.
A total of 634 RO plants do not function. The impoverished Tharparkar region has the highest number of RO plants, 589, in the province. Among them, 454 are working and 128 are out of order.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had earlier directed the finance department to release PKR 336.7 million so that 110 RO water plants in Thar could be made operational again.
The chief minister issued the order after it was brought to his knowledge that out of Thar’s 589 RO plants, 128 had faced closure due to lack of payments. He was informed of the issue by the committee constituted by him to visit Thar.
