Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), in collaboration with the police department, carried out an anti-encroachment operation at the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and demolished 10 shops and 47 kiosks, a news source reported. The operation was launched on the directives of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
A team of building inspectors had identified various illegal structures and establishments during their visit to the area a week ago. RMC officials said they sent notices to the concerned traders but did not receive a response in time.
Last week, the civic body had carried out a similar operation on Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh and Committee Chowk where the officials demolished shutters, boards, and other encroachments.
LHC Rawalpindi Bench Justice Ibaad-ur-Rehman had earlier directed the district administration, municipal corporation and cantonment boards to remove all encroachments by year end.
He also told the authorities concerned to retrieve state land from illegal occupants, adding that the court would not tolerate any more delays in the operation against encroachments and other illegal structures.
