Islamabad: As many as 10 projects worth USD 19 billion have been completed, while 12 projects are in their final phase, a news source reported. The projects are part of the multi-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
According to officials in the CPEC Secretariat, the installation of fibre-optic cable from Rawalpindi to Khunjerab has been completed. They added that more than 700,000 jobs would be created by 2030.
On December 20, the Joint Coordination Committee, CPEC’s highest forum, accorded approval to a social development package worth USD 1 billion.
Earlier, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce said that projects under the first phase of CPEC will be completed within a year. He said the government wanted to expand the scope of CPEC in areas of industries, social development, agriculture, and education.
Dawood said the new leadership was determined to overcome the current economic challenges by formulating investment-friendly, development-focused and people-centric policies.
