I am confused about 3 types of measurements rampant in Islamabad property circles ( even at zameen.com)
1) 25 x40, 30x 60 sort of measurements
2) 1000 sq feet, 1200 sq feet, like things
3) 200 sq yard, 555 sq yard.
I am a daihati man and know only marlas, I want to buy a few properties in Islamabad...e.g if someone offers me 'taqreebun 6 marla' and says in papers it is 200 sq yards actullay it is 20 x 30...I am totally lost.
Could anyone provide a link to website giving understanding of these measurements to help me invest in kings city
Dear Bader its very simple just multiply the size and divide the result bu 225 you will got marlas. But please remember in some area the size of Marla is different therefore ask first about the sq feet/ marla. In Bahria Town and other CDA societies the size of marla is 225 sq feet. If the size is in sq yard just divide it by 25 you will got marlas.
It is a great help Shahid, I am obliged. Carry home message 1) Example 4500 sq ft/225 = 20 marla OR 2) Example 555 sq yds/25 = 22.2 marla
In addition I want to share for general benefit I learnt on my own that if we multiply square yards with 9 we get square feet.
3) Example 200 square yards x 9 = 1800 square feets. (simple maths but not for daihatees like me!!)

One thing you should know is that 1 Marla in villages etc is 272.25 sq ft while in Islamabad 1 marla is 225 sq ft so a 20 Marla plot in Islamabad is actually 16.5 Marlas if you know what i mean

Yeh… Just double checked in Wikipedia and here is what i found: “The marla was standardized under British rule to be equal to the square rod, or 272.25 square feet, 30.25 square yards, or 25.2929 square metres”
Thank u Zeb, Believe me this disclosure is of a great help especially when u consider a Daihati like me trying to urbanize!! Every thing in the city seems to be so small. GEO Islamabad! Actually I have concluded that Marla system is not there in Islamabad..full stop..however as our minds are set on Marla Kanal system therefore we must know these conversions. I hope this discussion will be of great help for many people like me.
