Financial action task force (FATF) on Friday concluded that Pakistan should complete FATF action plan until June, 2020. It decided that Pakistan will remain on the grey list till June 2020. FATF stated that Pakistan complied with 14 points out of 27 total and urged Pakistan to comply with FATF action plan completely until June.
Last year in October, FATF had made a similar decision and had asked the Pakistan’s government to work on the FATF action plan until February, 2020. FATF acknowledged that Pakistan had made significant process in the past few months.
Our country is going through economic recession and soon more taxes can be expected, which will smother the poor of the country further. While there are hurdles in foreign policy and troubles at Kashmir front, the least the government could do right now is improve its work on strangling terror financing and money laundering within the country. And again I wonder what stops the authorities from taking no-punches-held-back action against terror financing?
