Foreigners to be given PR of Pakistan

Pakistan has recently unveiled a permanent residency scheme for foreigners if they buy real estate in the country worth USD 100,000 to USD 300,000. This is a replication of the model followed in Turkey to attract foreign investment of Afghans who are moving to other countries and people of the Sikh community who are willing to invest in religious sites such as Kartarpur Corridor.

What are your thoughts about this initiative? How do you rate this move of the government? Given the current circumstances, do you think this will bring enough foreign investment to call this scheme successful?

ROFL, what an utter joke. So the people of Pakistan are desperately leaving the country and you expect foreigners to “BUY” passports that are 3rd from the bottom?

Statements like these from the government shows their brains are planted in their bottoms.

Could be very productive but who will implement it honestly?
We are all fraud in all facets of life. Our morality has completely currupted…
Out leaders do not have a sense of public service…
We think any responsibility is a license of looting the country…
If managed in true sense this can be very meaningful for the state.

Done by the government who claimed ganjon ne China and India ko Pakistan bech dia hai… In CPEC and other forms… I mean you are making the resident people scrap for pennies and bahar wale can come and enjoy elite life. Sorry if it sounds like hate speech but the government needs to work to uplift residents…

a similar model was adopted by Turkey some time ago and they, I think, did pretty well. one of my ex-colleagues got a property there and moved permanently. i think it can be very good for the country, given they actually implement it wisely.
the focus of the government is currently rich people of Afghanistan running to other countries and Sikh community who have religious sites here. @yousafnoor sikhs do really come to Pakistan annually to pay a visit to these sites and this way, not only investment will be brought in but the nearby areas of such holy sites can also be developed into communities.

@hazafa.hassan since its not just any other project for the local community, it is targeting specific people. no matter how miserable life is for the middle and lower classes here in the country, the upper class is still happy and enjoying their lifestyle to the full. yes, they do say that the economy is crashing every second, yet you will see them grabbing many thousand ruppees dinner the very next second, a dinner equivalent to the amount that someone in need can spend for days.
my two cents on this, the initiative is good enough to bring in millions of dollars in investment if not billions because its not for just anybody. only those will be considered who have the fortune. also, tourists come to Pakistan every year and it doesn’t hurt to get a PR here and visit Pakistan as they please. so, my question to you is who not?

@mamoon.ali you are right in your POV… However, my point is that other countries (like you quoted turkey) know where and when to draw the lines. They don’t seek investment at the cost of nationals. We all know that’s not the case here. Money can open all kinds of doors here and inflation rate might be balanced out when the government gets its hands on cash, but will that improve quality of life for people here. Gulf has a kafil system that worked to the advantage of nationals, I guess, I am looking for that sort of silver lining.

so you think people will come to Pakistan and get citizenship for $100k? Comparing Turkey to Pakistan is comparing is not a good comparison. Pakistan’s passport ranks #3 from the bottom, combined with all the bad things Pakistan has to offer: poor work ethic, corruption, terrorism, law/order etc who will come here?

99% Pakistan if not 100% wants to move abroad and Govt wants to bring foreigners for $100k? For $100k people can buy passports of countries like Dominica or ST Kitts and Nevis and enjoy tax free benefits as well as a passport that’s ranked #25 - giving access to 140 countries.

It is a fact that more papulation of any country is a charm of the foreign investors & if leaders play to the state’s benift, the papulation actually dictates the journey of self supported economy just because of the ever increasing number of the papulation.
We go abroad for mainly two benifits…money & facilities but any foreign investor from the developed world would come only for making money…NOT for facilities…
When it comes to making money, an investor will give a damn to the comforts, country offers…

Pakistan has countless venues for abroad investors…only investment in tourism can change Pakistan fate.
We are buying everything from China and if someone starts producing in Pakistan from the in-house resources, a clear difference could be achieved…
Example:
One of my friends who is Director of a " plastic quality wrappers factory" in Pakistan, tells that if Rs 4 billions to be invested, the minimum profit per month is 20 crores…
Think of fish industry, quality garments, our yellow salt which is unique in the world, Agri sector, small dams on Pak irrigation water flows on local levels & produce power…even without dams, water flow energy can run small turbines… construction industry…see project 18 Islamabad success!
There are so many fields a foreign investor can make money & support Pakistan economy.

@lifeline_is all problems of Pakistan are for the poor. Those who can afford it can live like royalty here. And Afghans already here everywhere so they better invest in it as well. I just want the country to be better for those who belong to it, so they dont have to go abroad.

does some one here any experience of buying passport of Caribbean countries I am also thinking for buying one, but I have to invest my 50-60% investment for it, is it worth it?

@yousafnoor my point is that who is settled abroad doesn’t come back unless their circumstances change. The scheme that the government has launched is to attract only those who are settled there, not to call anyone back. their primary objective is to get the investment, the rest they probably don’t care if people stay here. and real estate in Pakistan currently is a hot commodity and the industry is actually growing.
to your second point that tourism can make this better, yes it may but it is not the only thing that one should rely on. its like the saying goes, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. you are risking everything. more and better avenues have to be explored and this one seems like a better solution. we all know that people rarely come back to their own country let alone visit other countries to stay for longer durations. if Sikhs and Afghans are targeted, it is only because of the kind of investment they can bring.

@hazafa.hassan you are absolutely right. we are living in conditions that are only getting worse. its not just about the economy which has worsened in the past few years but also about the basic facilities which are human need and not everyone is privileged enough to afford them.
if you can afford, you can live in a castle and forget about the conditions. if you cannot, struggle is what you will have to do.
the initiative is not to make Pakistan better but to offer others a business opportunity. i believe pakistan is currently a seller’s market which is why higher prices for all commodities hasn’t stopped the buying. instead, it seems to be increasing (i may be wrong). this is an advantage for the investors abroad and frankly, it doesn’t matter if they get the PR or not. they would be better off with their Canadian and US citizenships. they will only get opportunity to explore business potential here and visit their religious sites without any issues.

Just as opening Kartarpur border was not politicians decision, this move that specifically targets Sikhs and Afghans is not their doing either. Every country opens up investment visa and passport schemes to bring in hot money, talent and to support diversity and puralism. None of these seems to be on cards in our case. It’s more like a “Ertugrul show” type initiative.

It seems bunch of jokers are running this country.

My neighbours are a Sikh family and they seem to be very interested in this initiative but they are mainly intereted in an holiday type home/apartment that can be used by family and friends for visiting various Sikh religious sites in Pakistan.

@isloo1 “Ertugrul show” type initiative :joy:

Nice one!

Sir, no sane foreign investor is gonna come here and invest $100k. The very own business people here are in bad shape these days so how come foreign investors will come to a country where security is a big issue. Every other week Sheikh rasheed says there’s a growing thread of terrorism, given that no one will even come to Pakistan for a visit.

What you’re saying everyone’s been saying since 1947, agar aisa howa tu mulk ki taqdeer badal jayegi… In reality it will never happen. Pakistan’s graph is downward right from 1947.

Here is my bit…
One of my friends who worked with me in gulf, asking me to work on his half a million Qatari Riyals investment if he can stay in Pak indefinitely & could take his profit out on legal channels…
He is after Me since two year when I came back on my retirement…
Now upon RP facility, he is again on my nerves…
Did you see Eighteen Islamabad, sir???
RP facility has many dimensions…
Peop are investing in Somalia, Sodan & in high risk areas …
Pakistan is not such a mess as we normally portray out of our depression…in fact lot better Alhamdolilla…
Sir, our country is a great country, it has been survived in all thick & thins and it is hare to stay…
People exhausted themselves in looting him but it absorbed all looting and cheatings.
Just see the TTs historical curruption…

@lifeline_is the real reason this country is going down the hill is that it is run as a security state. A fabricated sense of insecurity that takes away lions share of public resources. So the governments do not work for people. Neither do they spend money on people. Powerful take all the pie and leave the 250 million commoners survive on the crumbs. Of course, these crumbs are not distributed equally, but trickle down the hierarchy of feudals, pirs, religious leaders, qabza groups, adulterators, hoarders, profiteers, etc. etc, and only then commoners.

The real question to ask, is this sustainable?

No Sir, scores of unjust societies perished before us. This unjust system that is run by powerful elites, comprising bureaucracy, establishment and civilians, is bound to sink. It’s only matter of time.

Now this elite class brings puppets like Niazi and moulvies, who speak the language that a common man wants to hear and cherish. This gives “moral oxygen” to this stinking system for some time and then it collapses. Then again it is repeated with new faces, slogans and fervor. This “dang tapao” policy goes on forever.

Lagay raho munna bhai.

The PR Scheme is also designed to gain another “strategic depth”, it is not for you and me to get prosperous with foreign inflows of money.

Just like 35 bn american dollars that vaporized in thin air.

With respect sir, who is investing in Somalia & Sudan? Probably the Chinese who are backed up by their strong governments who want to “pull” as much money as they can from these african “resource rich” countries. If its only “for money” then that’s another debate you can definetly earn more money in Africa and/or Afghanistan as well - money will always bear more money.

Speak of Pakistan our very own generals have millions of dollars in foreign banks. When we say Pakistan is a rich country that makes me laugh, the British were the first to recognize the “fake potential” of Indian Subcontinent, I have heard a story from a 85 year old in my village saying:

“When the british were leaving many of the district elders were present and the British chief at that time gave a speach and then remain silent for a brief moment, the elders saw tears in his eyes and they started murmuring that Chief is sad cuz they’re leaving - the chief got angry and stood up and said we are not sad cuz we’re leaving, we’re leaving by choice there’s nothing here that we will miss but we are sad cuz you people don’t have the potential and talent to run the system or even maintain what we’ve done so far”

I think this is true, I can say for sure that remove all the govt departments and this country can run by itself. This is not a country sir and you’ll realize that once you go to any developed country. One can never see the bad when they are within it - tu airport se pata lag jata hai k kitna backward country hai. Afghanis are not that fool to bring $100k to Pakistan when they can easily go to Europe/Americas and are easily granted asylum - maybe a good deal for the Afghani drug smugglers and bad people.
