Prime Minister’s Advisor Hafeez Sheikh has announced that the government does not plan to include any new taxes within the upcoming financial budget 2020-21. This is, of course, a positive news but my concern is it’s possibility.
It is an irrefutable fact that the ongoing coronavirus situation has already burdened us as a nation. So, a respite from new taxes in the financial budget 2020-21 is highly appreciable. However, the question remains if the government can actually make this possible as questions arise like ‘Is the IMF supporting this decision?
If the government can successfully convince the IMF on not adding any new taxes in the financial budget 2020-21, then it would definitely be a welcoming news. Given the state of the current economy and the fact that the future remains uncertain, we really need the IMF be on board with the government’s decision of not imposing new taxes.
I really do hope we can have a budget that brings relief to the masses in these immensely tough times.
