Yes, govt can utilize other instruments to raise money but when everywhere hand picked monkeys are installed to oppose any favourable action for Pakistan, it is not easy for the govt to implement.
Our stock market remains at less than 12000 points for years in past and no one beat drums!
I am reading on zameen news itself that every day good steps are being taken by govt but no body gives a damn to these good news!
I am sure Imran will improve things as time passes just because honesty has to speak up, one way or another.

Funny thing is that foreigners are buying our stocks right now and our local Pakistanis are even exiting their mutual fund accounts.
Dollar is only going up because rich Pakistanis are buying it from open market and storing. Otherwise, imports are down and there is no demand coming from importers.
Property investors are also culprits, they are selling their plots and buying dollars. For god's sake keep your plots and wait 5-10 years. Property prices will rise once economy is stable again.

USD in INTERBANK (not only Open Market) climbinig due to free Market-driven exchange, repayments, Petro import etc. Wish it's the last climb but market suggests otherwise and we have agreed for a free-float exchange! Two IMF guys parachutted for a reason, to do what Asad Umer was hesitant of...
80% of the negativity is spread by the PTIs govt themselves, they dont post any positive news to restore confidence of the investors and business people.

Investor, Ali Numan, saved millions of PKR while earning in dollars, bought plots worth crores and their prices instead of appreciating remains the same while dollar went upwards. So my situation is even worse :)
In this country us common people and halal money earners suffer the most.
Its a fact that previous governments had loin share in creation of current chaotic state. But its also a fact that current government including asad umer due to their incompetence and indescion played havoc with the economy. AZ and Ns went to imf within three months of coming to power.
Will rupee continue to devalue? Its 155 right now.. I wonder if its ok to buy gold to safe guard the money?

Inter-bank is vital, as far as State-level payments. Trading at 152+ in Inter-bank. Free (float), Market-based Exchange Rate as drafted in the policy document with IMF. So it's any body's guess. Things as they stand now it is predicted to hit 160 - 164 range before or by Dec 2019. Can stabilize and strengthen, if more foreign investment, remittances and trade deficit decreased.
Good thing is that PSX gained 1200 points today. At this point in time, its the confidence of investors that matters to avoid further free fall.
So probably not a good idea to buy dollars at this point in time?
Until this deal is completed with IMF, PKR will always be on a tight rope against USD. PAK siding with China and alike stuff will keep PKR under pressure (political side of IMF deals). When the Chaudry offers the loan, not only it demands interest based repayments, it expects a surrender of the self-esteem and loyalties too. 3+ yrs trajectory up to 192 even way before the deal. May go beyond that. 145 - 150 mark was predicted by Dec 2019 but it happened much earlier, unfortunately.
Blessings in disguise can be increased exports due to devalued PKR - a strategy that China adopts even at the cost of self-chosen devaluation of it's Yuan. Devaluation is not as evil as it may sound and can be a strength in certain cases, provided one has a positive trade balance (more exports less imports)

Octupus, china, devaluation was actually currency manipulation and for that and intellectual property theft etc donald trump imposed huge terrifs on import bill from octupus.......

I guess, I tried to to explain (personal perspective) on potential impacts of devaluation on Real Estate on the same thread, a few pages back.
- File based and premium-driven stuff may see a decline (at least on asking premium) or negativity. For example, one bought a file at about 25% premium of the total price may see a a decline in that 25% rather then any growth.
- Possession plots most likely stagnant as is the case since last Jun. If someone wants to shed off some plot he/she may sell that at slightly lower then market (normal practise) but people with holding power of 1+ yrs will make prices at standstill.
- Only projects with on ground development will see slight appreciation (i.e., development work, handing over of possession). Anything in range of 5+ % appreaction can be seen as good, at-least until Dec2019. Budget will also be determinantal.
- Constructed houses much slower to sell. More exchange options to trade. At least keeps dealers commission going, i.e., exchange deals rather then cash!
- Most attractive, installmant-based properties in the range of 1.5 to 2.0 million with monthly installment in the range 25 to 40k.
- Post budget and till Dec 2019, trend seems to be saving or currency based investments rather then plots. Exactly 2 yrs back the situation was quite reversed until June of 2018.

It's obvious what market-based exchange means, i.e., no control by SBP and PKR weaker or stronger whatever markets determine. It's not out of the blue, it was written all over the place. My comments on same thread 169 days ago from today.

This is what was supposed to happen. Rest, there is no cure to deny the inevitable facts with cooked up disney tales to hide failures.
** Interbank that represent international and state-driven transactions at 152+ is an evidence that Open Market can be manipulated by +/- 3 PKR but Interbank suggests that govt. is buying/trading/borrowing at 152+

Imran govt may be immaterial now but what important is that out of the box thinking is being exercised for the first time in the country.
