Oh bhai don't take things strictly according to the rule. Many people have other sources of income other than a 9-5 job. Also almost majority of a household has someone who is abroad and earning and saving.
You are talking about the times of 1960s,70s when a single job was sufficient for everything. Now things are different and almost everyone is involved in many things.
