Rawalpindi: FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Friday said that a draft concerning a fixed-tax regime would be finalised after consultations with stakeholders, a news source reported. He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with a delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by its President Malik Shahid Saleem at the FBR House.

The FBR chairman said that the major aim of the proposed draft was to seek proposals from the stakeholders – chambers of commerce, trade associations, as well as the general public – prior to commencing with its finalisation.
He remarked that the FBR believed in ‘partnership with the business community’ for the general welfare. Amendments will be made after due consultations with the traders and business community in order to facilitate the taxpayers, he added.

In response, the RCCI President said that traders did not oppose tax collection initiatives, but the government should introduce measures to expand the existing tax base instead of harassing the taxpayers ‘in the name of tax collection’.
